Looking for a job offshore?
The UK offshore oil and gas industry only began in 1965 and so it is still a relatively new employment field. New technologies and systems are having to be developed as exploration and production activities move into new areas with greater water depths and harsher weather conditions. At the present time the UK offshore industry is mainly located off the East coast of England and Scotland but exploration is also being carried out in the Western approaches, the Irish Sea and West of the Shetland Islands.
A typical North Sea production platform will boast a core crew of 50-100 men and women. Offshore crew usually work on a production platform for a period of two weeks before having a rest period onshore for two weeks - 2 weeks on 2 weeks off. Those in drilling and exploration can spend longer offshore.
Finding a job is not easy. Relevant experience or training can help. However, offshore companies do provide training for new entrants. Trainees may be required to complete training courses during their onshore leave.
Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire are great starting points for getting a job offshore. Many Oil & Gas companies are based in Aberdeen and have headquarters there, they also have many offices around the world where they do other drilling and exploration work.
Jobs offshore covers jobs in the North Sea, East coast of England, Irish Sea, Shetland Isles, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Russia, Middle East (including Dubai), Gulf of Mexico and China, amongst others.
