NCH has been supporting children and young people affected by poverty, disability, abuse or neglect for over 135 years. Today we are the UK’s leading children’s charity. We are currently running some 500 projects, supporting more than 160,000 vulnerable children, young people and their families across the UK each year. And we are delivering results that matter in a community near you; over 80% of the UK population live within ten miles of an NCH project. Our work is very challenging but it’s also very rewarding. In the North of Scotland we have a range of services specialising in family support, residential child care and Youth Justice. Locally we have over 100 people working for us.
Currently we are looking to recruit foster carers in the Highland and Moray areas to enable us to offer the service to young people. Foster Care NCH was established in the Glasgow area nine years ago in direct response to a Social Work Inspectorate report that called for the development of family-based services for children with challenging behaviour. A three-year independent evaluation of the service showed that this type of foster care had proved successful in turning young lives around.
One of the features of the service is that foster carers are paid the equivalent of a full time salary and accorded a professional status in recognition of the important service they deliver. Foster Care NCH also provides 24-hour support to carers.
Foster Care NCH is holding an open information session at its Inverness office on Thursday September 7 for anyone interested in becoming a foster carer. Further details are available by calling 0845 200 5162 or by visiting the website
