UHI Millennium Institute (UHI) is a higher education institution, which operates through a unique partnership of fifteen colleges and research institutions (known as Academic Partners) located throughout the Highlands and Islands. UHI was designated as a higher education institution in April 2001, and we are working together to create a fully established university.
Through our Academic Partners, UHI delivers a wide range of higher education services across the Highlands and Islands, including degree and Higher National courses. Currently, there are around 6,800 students enrolled on university-level courses and the annual turnover is approximately £36.5m.
UHI serves a diverse student body, many of whom are mature students and/or study on a part-time basis, providing an opportunity to develop new and innovative solutions to post-compulsory education, and areas of development include widening access, lifelong learning, e-learning, and progression from further education to higher education.
UHI’s Executive Office provides leadership and maintains the framework of support within which leadership is exercised by both the Board of Governors and UHI’s Executive Board. It undertakes executive and professional duties and co-ordinates and supports UHI network functions. These include ensuring the statutory requirements of a higher education institution are met, curriculum and staff development, quality assurance and enhancement, development of learning and information services, promotion of research, the provision of information for statutory and planning purposes, marketing and public relations, and administrative and financial services. These services support the higher education teaching and research carried out by Academic Partners.
